Dualtron repair & service

Minimotors’ Dualtron range is one of the benchmarks of the dual-motor performance scooter world. From Thunder to Storm, Achilleus to X2, plenty of Dualtrons have passed through our garage: brake conversions, controller and LED board repairs, wiring harness renewals, 5,000 km services. High current, a heavy frame and the rubber-cartridge suspension on most models give these machines a maintenance rhythm all their own. We know that rhythm.

Common faults

Problems we see in the garage, and how we fix them.

Models we service

  • Thunder
  • Thunder 2
  • Thunder 3
  • Storm
  • Storm Limited
  • Spider
  • Victor
  • Achilleus
  • Ultra 2
  • X2
  1. Fault 01

    Handlebar and folding play

High torque and a heavy frame eventually create play in the handlebar stem and the folding mechanism. If you feel a knock while riding or a shake in the bars, don’t put it off: we take up the play and replace worn bushings and pins. We’ve shown the Ultra 2 handlebar-play fix step by step on our channel.

  2. Fault 02

    Weak brakes and warped discs

Pinning the throttle and then hauling on the brakes overheats and warps the discs. A warped disc vibrates, makes noise and lengthens your braking distance. We replace discs and pads, and for anyone who wants more stopping power we do Magura conversions. We’ve fitted a Magura MT5 to a Thunder 2 and a Magura MT7 to a Thunder 3.

  3. Fault 03

Controller and LED control board faults

Sudden power cuts, one motor dropping out or LEDs with a mind of their own usually trace back to the controller or a board. Riding two-up also pushes the controller into overcurrent and overheating. We repair the board and replace the controller if needed.

  4. Fault 04

    Wiring harness and connector overheating

At high current, thin or tired wires heat up and connectors melt. At 5,000 km services we check the harness from end to end. On a Thunder 3 we replaced the single-sheath motor cable with three separate, thicker wires.

  5. Fault 05

    Hall sensors and motor bearings

Judder when pulling away, lazy throttle response or a hum from the motor are early signs of a Hall sensor or bearing problem. We open the motor, replace the sensor and bearings, and check the phase wires.

  6. Fault 06

    Rubber suspension fatigue

The rubber cartridges in most Dualtrons harden or soften over time, and the scooter starts to bounce or bottom out. We choose cartridges to suit your weight and riding style, and grease the pivots.

  7. Fault 07

    Display percentage drift

The battery percentage on Dualtron displays isn’t always accurate, and the speedometer can drift from GPS too. We read the real state from the voltage. For models with EYE4, EYE3 Connect, EYE2 and EYEA displays, the EyeX app offers live voltage and temperature monitoring.

  8. Fault 08

    Battery and BMS cut-outs

A drop in range or a sudden shutdown under throttle can be the BMS cutting the circuit to protect weak cells. We measure each cell, correct the imbalance or replace the weak groups.

Maintenance schedule

Write it in your service log: a scooter that sticks to these intervals won’t leave you stranded.

Intervals may need to be shorter depending on how hard it’s used, rider weight and road conditions.

FAQ

Common questions about DUALTRON

01 There’s play in my Dualtron’s handlebar. Can I keep riding it?
We don’t recommend it. Play in the handlebar and folding mechanism can turn into a speed wobble at high speed. We find the source and fix it with an adjustment or new bushings and pins; it’s usually a quick job.
02 Can Magura brakes be fitted to a Dualtron?
Yes. We’ve done a Magura MT5 conversion on a Thunder 2 and a Magura MT7 on a Thunder 3. Depending on the model, you’ll need an adapter, the right hose length and a brake sensor connection; after diagnosis we give you a firm price.
03 Why is the battery percentage on my display wrong?
Dualtron displays estimate the percentage, and it isn’t always accurate. Voltage is the most reliable indicator; you can read your pack’s real state of charge from our battery voltage chart. If a fault is suspected, we test the cells in the garage.
04 How often should a Dualtron be serviced?
Every 500 km: bolts, tyre pressure and brake adjustment. Every 1,000 km: pads, suspension greasing and connectors. Every 2,500–3,000 km: hydraulic brake fluid and motor bearings. Under heavy use, shorten these intervals.
05 Can I bring in my Dualtron while it’s still under warranty?
For warranty work, we suggest you first contact the seller or distributor you bought it from. For out-of-warranty repairs, maintenance and upgrades, the garage door is open.
06 I’m outside Istanbul. Can I ship my Dualtron to you?
Yes. Message us on WhatsApp and we’ll send you a shipping code. When the scooter arrives we do the diagnostics free of charge and send you our quote; the repair starts once you approve, and the scooter comes back to you by courier.
07 Do you charge for diagnostics?
No, diagnostics are free. They cover checking your scooter and pinpointing the problem; no repairs are carried out. We send you a clear quote, and repairs only start if you approve it.
08 How does mail-in service work?
Message us on WhatsApp and we’ll send you a shipping code. Pack up your scooter and send it in; when it arrives we do the diagnostics free of charge and send you our quote. Once you approve, we repair it, test it and ship it back to you.
