01

Measure the resting voltage

Wait at least 30 minutes after riding or charging. Voltage drops when you open the throttle (voltage sag); a reading under load makes the battery look emptier than it is. If the scooter cuts out when you accelerate, or the voltage doesn’t recover after it drops, it’s time to get the battery checked.

02

Don’t always trust the percentage on the display

The percentage readouts on Dualtron and similar displays aren’t always accurate. Voltage measured at the battery port or the charging socket is a far more reliable guide.

03

How do we calculate it?

Pack voltage = number of cells in series (S) × cell voltage. Full charge is taken as 4.20 V per cell and empty as 3.00 V per cell; the values in between approximate the typical resting curve of NMC lithium-ion cells. Cell chemistry, temperature and battery age all change the result.

04

The range that makes batteries last

For daily use, 20–80% charge — and 40–60% for long storage — is the range that stresses the cells least. Never charge below 0 °C, and never leave a battery charging unattended.

Frequently asked

Frequently asked

01 How many volts is a fully charged 72V scooter battery?
A 72 V (20S) pack reads 84.0 V at full charge and about 60.0 V when empty.
02 At what voltage is a 48V battery empty?
A 48 V (13S) pack is full at 54.6 V and empty at about 39.0 V. The BMS usually cuts the output before it gets that low.
03 Why does my voltage reading go up after a ride?
Cell voltage drops temporarily under load. Once the battery has rested it returns to its true value — which is why you should wait at least 30 minutes before measuring.
