ORKOZ by Storm Garage

ORKOZ

Against the current.

When the Lodos, the south-westerly gale, piles the Sea of Marmara into the Bosphorus, the surface current reverses and flows north. Istanbul calls it the Orkoz: the current that runs against the current. ORKOZ is that force, on the water.

01

What is the Orkoz?

Sometimes the Bosphorus flows backwards.

The Bosphorus’ surface current normally runs down from the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara. When the Lodos blows hard, everything changes.

  1. 01 Normal day

From the Black Sea to the Marmara.

The Bosphorus’ surface water flows from north to south, from the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara. That’s the Bosphorus on any ordinary day.

  2. 02 The Lodos blows

The Marmara piles into the Bosphorus.

A hard Lodos from the south-west pushes the Marmara’s water towards the Bosphorus’ southern mouth and piles it up.

  3. 03 The Orkoz is born

    The current reverses.

The surface current turns north and runs at up to 6–7 knots. Ferry services can be cancelled, and the Bosphorus can be closed to large ships.

  4. 04 ORKOZ

For those who don’t go with the flow.

Our jetboard series takes its name from this current. And a bonus: in Turkish, “koz” is the trump card that beats your opponent.

Naming scheme

What does 12C mean?

The language spoken in the garage is kilowatts. So ORKOZ models state their power first, then their hull.

  1. ORKOZ Series The reverse current born of the Lodos. The name of the jetboard family.
  2. 12 Power 12 kW jet propulsion (≈ 16 hp). Power first, because power makes the call.
  3. C Hull Carbon: carbon fibre + EPP hull.

If it spoke Teverun…

7260R

72 V · 60 Ah

7258C

72 V · 58 Ah

The 7260R takes its name from its 72 V 60 Ah battery. By the same logic, the 72 V 58 Ah ORKOZ 12C would be called the 7258C. In short: part of the garage family.

A scheme built to grow

  • ORKOZ 12L Light EPP hull
  • ORKOZ 12C R Developed in the garage, if the warranty allows

These illustrate the naming scheme; they are not for sale.

Frequently asked

About ORKOZ.

Back to Storm Garage Marine
01 What does ORKOZ mean?
Orkoz is the name of the powerful reverse surface current that forms in the Bosphorus when the Lodos blows. When the Lodos piles the Marmara’s water into the Bosphorus, the current turns north and reaches up to 6–7 knots. Storm Garage Marine’s jetboard series takes its name from this current.
02 What does 12C stand for?
12 stands for the motor’s 12 kW of power; C for the carbon fibre + EPP hull. ORKOZ models state their power first, then their hull type.
03 What platform is the ORKOZ 12C based on?
The ORKOZ 12C is built on the Wave Aero Carbon V1 electric jetboard platform. The model name, brand use and final technical data will be confirmed once the supplier signs off.
04 How fast is it, and how long does it run?
The manufacturer states a top speed of 60 km/h and an average ride time of 55 minutes. These are preliminary figures; rider weight, waves and wind change the real-world numbers.
05 Can I swap the battery on the water?
The manufacturer states that the 72 V 58 Ah battery swaps in about 10 seconds thanks to its plug-and-play system, and that the compartment is water-resistant. We show you how to do it properly at delivery.
06 How much does it cost?
The price hasn’t been announced yet. People on the pre-order list are the first we tell about the price and delivery date.
